Group Show in Kyoto

Surface of Window 窓の表面

I am participating in a group show "Surface of Window" in Kyoto with artists from Japan, Belgium, Switzerland, South Korea and Malaysia.

The exhibition title "Surface of Window" indicates a reflected surface on a glass pane. The surface represents one's spirituality, and the external world seen through the window represents society. The exhibited works explore the artists' relationship between spirituality and society through diverse contemporary expressions. The majority of the exhibited works are photographs, however, works that pertain to the concept of photography, though expressed in different media, will also be on display. The exhibition is part of a ten-year project (composed of biennial exhibitions) based on the theme "slow and tense atmosphere," which alludes to the location of Kyoto and its sense of spirituality. From this city, the project aims to introduce contemporary artists and their artistic movement to an international audience. The first exhibition of this project will feature works by artists mostly from Japan and South Korea, along with participants from Belgium, Switzerland and Malaysia.

グループ展に参加します。「窓の表面」と題したこの展覧会は、ガラスに反射した表面を示しています。その表面の意味は、自身の精神性を指し、窓から眺めた外の世界は、社会を指しています。アーティストたちの作品からその精神性と社会の関係を掲示し、様々な同時代性に共鳴する表現が集います。この写真をテーマとした展覧会は、写真芸術との接点を見いだすことのできる他現代美術のアーティストも含み、１０年の間に定期継続（隔年開催）するタイムプロジェクトとして活動していきます。京都という場の精神性に通じた意識の中、スロー＆テンスアトモスフィア（ゆっくり、そしてその緊張感）をテーマに、京都から世界へ発信する同時代のアーティストたちにおけるムーブメントとなることを目指しています。第一回は、日本と韓国を中心に、ベルギー、スイス、マレーシアのアーティストを紹介いたします。

Art of the Samurai

先日メトロポリタン美術館で開かれているアート　オブ　ザ　サムライというショウをみにいった。普段、刀や防具などに興味のない私ですが、日本でもなかなかみれないものが展示されているということで、セントラルパークに行ったついでにたちよってみました。閉館までに２時間だったので十分かと思っていたら足りずに、後日また足をはこびました。刀の量はすごい。私でも名前の聞いた事のある名剣がづらり、何百年も前につくられたとは思えない、シンプルで斬新なデザイン、驚きました。特に驚いたのは兜、蝶やトンボのデザインのあしらわれたものから、本当にかぶって戦えるの？と思えるほど不自然だが威嚇性のあるデザイン。みごとなショウでした。

When I went to the Central Park, I stopped by the Metropolitan Museum to see the temporary show, Art of the Samurai. I had 2 hours before closing the museum, but it wasn't enough at all. I had to go back to see it again. It was a very rich and interesting show. I am not generally into Swords and Arms, but it was a very special show. There are so many famous swords even me can recognize. I mostly enjoyed the designs of the swords. They were so soficicated design, I can't believe it was made a long time ago. I also thought so many people were killed by this swords.. it was very scary to look at. I especially enjoyed the design of the helmets. They were not only made to protect themselves, but also made for Samurai to dress up the day of deadly fights. Some of the helmets looked outrageous. Huge dragonfly is on the helmets, or simple abstract shaped ornaments on them. I doubt if it was easy to fight wearing it. They are not made for disguising themselves, more make them stand out in the fight and suppress the enemies

Late Show

I went to the David Letterman Show recently. I used to live near Times Square, and passed by many times, but I never been there. The guest was Bill Cosby. It was nice to see him. He was so sweet to the fans who were waiting outside. His talk was funny. Nice surprise was the band we saw at the same show. Ryan Bingham and Dead Horses. I loved his voice! and music.

David LettermanのLast Show にいってきました。以前タイムズスクエアの近くにすんでいて、よくスタジオの横を歩いていたのにいったことがなかったのでいってきました。ゲストはBill Cosbyとてもかわいらしい方でした。待っているファンにもとても優しく対応していました。予想外のサプライズはRyan Bingham and Dead Horses とういバンド。初めて演奏を聞いたのだけど、よかった。とても素敵な声のRyan Bingham。普段、カントリーミュージックはあまり聞かないのだけど、カントリーというかとてもオリジナルでした。
