Paris

昨日パリからかえってきました。初めてパリフォトをみにいったのですが、とてもよかったです。ヨーロッパのアートフェアはARCOの次に二度目の経験になりますが、写真フェアは今回のみです。毎年テーマが決められているらしく、ニューヨークのアートフェアとは少し違うなとおもいました。でている作品もニューヨークとは違うものが沢山ありとても楽しかったです。

今回は日本からのアーティストの人たちとお時間をすごすことができてとても楽しかったです。何だか修学旅行のようでした。

もちろん、アートフェアも良かったのですが、パリは５回目にもなるのに、いつも新鮮でとても幸せな気分になります。町中から聞こえるアンビエントがまたまたパリらしく、ムードをかきたててくれます。特にフランス人の小さな男の子の話すフランス語はとてもかわいいですね。映画みたい。今回、写真をとりにモンマルトルの丘に４回あがりました。ノートルダム寺院や凱旋門の上にもあがったりました。（長い階段をのぼりおりして足腰をきたえるられました。もちろん帰りの飛行機の中で筋肉痛と足のむくみになやませれました。）

今回パリにきて少し驚いたのは沢山の高層ビルがたちならんでいたこと。もちろん、パリのど真ん中ではないのですが、パリの回りをかこんで高層ビルがたちならんでいました。少し、悲しいような、不思議な気持ちになりました。

つけたしですが、今回私はlanmark, アメリの撮影の行われたabbesse のとなりの駅のホテルとまっていました。とてもおすすめ。パリに住んだような気分になりました。

I came back from Paris yesterday. It was first time to attend Paris Photo. It was great. I have been to ARCO, one of the art festivals in Europe, however it was the first time to go to a photography festival in Europe. I thought it was a bit different from New York. I saw several works that never seen in New York. They also choose a country and invite galleries and publisher from the county.

It was so nice to have a chance to spend lots of Japanese artists and also other friends who I met before. It was like a reunion trip.

Of course, I enjoyed the art fair, but I also enjoy Paris. This is the fifth time to visit France, however it is always exciting. I love the ambient sounds on the streets. Little French boys voices were especially cute. It is like a movie. I walked up 4 times to Monmartre. I walked up to Triumphal arch, and Nortordam as well, in order to photograph. I had severe muscle arches and was suffered in the airplane on they way back to New York.

Looking at the Paris scenery, I notice there were so many high-rises. The high-rises are not in the middle of the city, but it changed the view of Paris.

I stayed in an area called Lanmark. I really enjoyed. It was one subway stop from Abbesse where Amerei was shot. I liked to stay the local places where I can experience the local life.

New Port Jazz Festival

New Port Jazz Festivalにいってきました。 前夜祭を入れて３日間にわたるコンサート、真夏の日に行われるこのFestival、素敵でした。今年は真夏の日のJAZZ FESIVALという映画が撮られて５０年目にあたるそうです。毎年たくさんの観客で賑わうというこのコンサート、数々の著名人がこられていました。

ジャズではないのですがアリサ　フランクリンも出演。
流石の貫禄、圧倒されました。そして、おおきい。私は彼女の真下にいたので余計大きくみえたのかもしれませんが想像以上でした。それまでにでていたグラミーノミネートの歌手、Ledesiの迫力に感心していたのですが、さすが伝説のアリサでした。(Ledes、とってもかわいい。）声がどんどんでるのにまだまだでるって感じ。歌がうまいってこういう事をいうのだなって、納得させられました。

そしてSonny Rollins で最後が締めくくられました．77歳という年齢を感じさせない、力強い演奏、会場の誰もが彼の演奏に聞き惚れていました。VIPルームでは出演者の方々までが自己の携帯で盗み撮りをするほど。豪華客船に乗っている人もカヌーに乗っている人も、会場に座っている人も、働いている人も皆、彼の演奏をきいていました。

Esperanza Spalding という若い女性がいました。彼女とてもかわいい。チェロを抱きかかえての演奏、とてもセクシー。


３日間にわたる真夏のコンサート。とてもよかったです。仕事でいったのに満喫しちゃいました。。はは。。




I just came back from New Port Jazz Festival. 3 days long concert has been held in mid summers. It was very exciting. This year was 50 years anniversary of the movie “ Jazz on a Summer’s day.” The concert was packed with many people, inviting many famous musicians.

Aretha Franklin came up to the stage. It was really amazing to see her. She was very very powerful. She was very big too. I was just below her looking up at her. It made me see her bigger. I was so impressed by the Ledesi, who is a Grammy nominee the day before the concert. However, Aretha brought her dignity on the stage. The powerful voice didn’t end, and get more powerful as she sung more. Amazing.

The end of the concert, Sony Rollins came up to the stage. All people at the concerts, including stuffs, and musicians stop what they were doing, and watched him play. I can’t believe he is 77 years old!!

Oh, Esperanza Spalding. I saw her first time. She was so cute, and sexy holding cello with her thin arms.

あつい

既にニューヨークに帰ってきています。ゆっくりとニューヨークを楽しみながら、たまっている仕事を少しづつこなしていこうと思っているのだけど、忙しい ニューヨークは安らぎの場所を与えてはくれない。ニューヨークは車の音、人の声、工事の音、いろんな音がどこよりもうるさい。休みだからニューヨークカー はいなくなっちゃうけど、ツーリストがくるので、結局どこへいっても人ばかり。不動産問題があるものの、マンションの工事はいまだあらゆるとこでやってい て、うるさい。時差ぼけがぬけないまま、２２丁目をぼんやりあるいていたら、うえから木の板がおちてきた。あたってたら、いたかっただろうな、、怪我して たかも。文句をいう元気もなく、通りすぎた。あつい。
暑さと時差ぼけで弱っているからだにムチをうって、チェルシーに、友達のグループショウに いってきました。会場も人ごみでなんだかあつい。。ギャラリー巡りを思ったけれど、あまりにもあついのと殆どのギャラリーがしまっていたので、結局３ブ ロック歩いて、あきらめてしまいました。

イタリア人の友達のカフェに立ちよったけど、暑くて、大好きなカプ チーノが飲めず、レモナータにしました。（これも美味しいのだけど。）本当に暑い。友達も私もお茶をしたら帰るつもりだったのだけれど、イタリア人の強引 さにまけて、食事に。普段ビールを飲まない私も、冷たーいビールに喜びをかんじた。うーん。おいしい。

その後、４００人以上がくるという知らない人のバースデーパーティにつれていかれることに。人数が多いので友達はつれていけないとのことだったのようですが、強引なイタリアン、女性でパーティでかえされることはないといって、連れていってくれました。

屋上が開放されていて、屋上での野外パーティ。DJも何人かいて、皆楽しく、踊ったり、お酒をのんだり。途中でベリーダンサーのパーフォーマンスも。オシャレをしている人もいっぱい、オシャレをしてこればよかったと後悔。昼間のワンピースのままで参加。

音楽をききながら、冷たいビールをのむ。時折ふく、なまぬるーい風が肌にやさしく、昼間の暑さをいやしてくれました。あついのも悪くないなあ。

日中遊び疲れた夏の、子供のころの夕涼みを思い出させてくれる。

It reminded me my childhood that I used to go for a walk with my family during a very hot summer day.

I have been back to New York. I wanted to catch up with my work and routine gradually, however, there is no relax moment in the city. Noises from cars, people, subways, and constructions, I always realize how loud New York is. Many New Yorkers have gone for vacations, but there are so many tourists in summerﾉ There are always many people Even though US has a real estate crisis, there are still building new buildings. ( well, it will stop someday. ) I was walking on 22nd and 6 avenue, a piece of wood fell down from the construction site. It must have been pain, if it fell on my head. Several people were looking up and ready to complain. I didnﾕt have the strength to complain.

I was weaken by heat and jet lag, but I went to my friend show. There are many people.. So hot. Many galleries were closed since it was summer. But we tried to do gallery walk. We walked 3 blocks.. and gave up.. So hot.

We stopped by my friendﾕs caf・in Lower East. It was too hot, and I couldnﾕt have cappuccino, so I had lemonata. There is ice coffee, but no iced cappuccino. My friend and I were going back to home after the caf・ but they asked us to have a dinner.. We were convinced to go even though we were pretty tired. Italian guys are very good at escorting and convincing girls and took us a big birthday party where were not invited..

It was a roof top party. There are several Djs and many people were dancing.
There was a belly dancing show in the middle of the party too. So entertaining. Many people are dressed so well. I was still in afternoon summer dress. I was kind of embarrassed. I should have dressed up.

Listening the music, gulp beer.. Warm summer night wind passed through my body, and healed my soul and body from this heat. Hot.. It is not bad.

It reminded me my childhood that I used to go for a walk with my family during a very hot summer day.

つけたし 蚊

先日ブログにかいたラマ島に行く人がいたらと思い、少し情報を書いておきます。香港フェリーターミナルからでているラマ島行きのフェリーで１時間ほど、（１時間に一本か２本出てます。結構遅くまで。）ついたらすぐに、ホテルやレストランがあり、島全体をハイキングすることもできます。オーガニック畑などがあり、とてものどかな街。ヒッピーな外人の人はこの島にたくさんいるようです。一度泊まりでいきたいとおもっているので町中にある小さなホテルの情報をピックアップしておきました。泊まったことがないので保証はできませんが、普通に奇麗なところでした。（ラグジュアリーホテルとかでないですよ）ホステルって感じでしょうか。日本でいうと港町にある小さな小切れな民宿ってかんじかな。あ、キッチンがついてるからそうでもないかな、貸しアパートって感じでしょうか。パティオなんかもあって、かわいいなあ、とおもいました。バーベキューもできるようです。後インターネットもあるみたいです。

蚊

今年に入ってから日本に帰るのも２度目。昨年から日本に帰る機会が増えている。以前よりも様子を把握し、東京もまよわず、動けるようになってきた。今回は梅雨にさしかっていたのだけれど、日本はどの季節に帰っても、良いなと思った。雨期でも、雨上がりはきらきらして奇麗だし、紫陽花の花には雨が似合うし。奇麗な色の傘が街の中をいったりきたりして、とても奇麗。ニューヨークも四季があるのだけれど、夏と冬といってしまってよいくらい、秋と春が短い。雨期も日本のような風情はないし。先日から、香港へ戻ってきたのですが、異常気象のように、晴れ晴れ晴れです。普段めったにみることのできない青空がここ３日間、ビルの谷間から見る事ができる。ちょっと不自然。週末忙しかったのになぜか外にでなければならない衝動にかられ、でかけていきました。ラマ島にボートに乗っていってきました。ラマには車がなく、とてものどかな雰囲気が漂っています。日もくれてきて、薄暗いジャングルっぽい道をあるいていると、ぷいーん。蚊です。そういえば、長い間、蚊にあうことがなかったので、この感覚をわすれていました。そういえば、ニューヨークにはあまり蚊がいないようにおもいます。蚊にさされながら、その暗い道をあるきながらいろいろな事を思い出しました。不愉快な蚊も、何だか風情を感じさせられました。

I went back to Japan twice this year. Recently, I have chances to visit Japan I don’t get lost in Tokyo and can get around by myself. I think Tokyo is too big and too many subways! This time, it was rainy season. I thought the rainy season in Japan is pretty nice. The dews on the leaves were shinning, Hydrangeas match with rain. Colorful umbrellas cover the streets

New York has four seasons, but sometimes, I feel there are only summer and winter. The spring and fall are so short, and there is no rainy season It rains, but not like Japanese rainy season.

I am back in Hong Kong now. Everyday is sunny day. This is so unusual in Hong Kong. I felt guilty to stay at home, took a boat, and went to Lama Island!. Just less than one hour, I can reach to the Lama Island. There is no car in the island. When it gets dark, we were walking back from the beach passing through jungle like area, big leaves, palm trees, etc. buzz… mosquitoes!!
This is a forgotten feeling! There are no many mosquitoes in New York compare to Asia. I felt a flavor of summer. buzz

Jazz

先週の土曜日の夜に、ジャズフォトグラファーの知人の方にThe Stone という非営利ジャズクラブにつれって頂きました。John Zone と杉本さんが運営されているそうです。毎日違うバンドが演奏するのですが、連れてきて頂いた人のおすすめのバンドでした。いきなり、ロックバンドのようなジャズバンド、今までに聞いた事の無い音楽。すこし、おどろきました。休むひまもなく２曲つづけて。激しい音楽の中、ベーズの音が力づよく鳴り響きトランペットとドラムとクラリネット絡み合っていました。会場はバーとかではないので、飲食ができないところで、皆、何も飲まず、ただ演奏をきいていました。沢山の人がイスにもすわれず地べたに座り込んでいました。皆の集中力が会場にある種の緊張感を作り上げていて演奏者の鼓動が聞こえるようでした。そして、ワイルドなベーズの音に聞き惚れていたのは私だけではなかったでしょう。私自身普段こんなにベーズに注目してきいたのは初めてです。とても良い演奏でした。音楽通ではない私にはなんともせつめいできませんが。クラリネットの方がサックスフォンを取り出して演奏をし始めたときに、初めてニューヨークにきたときの感動をおもいだしました。誰もいないオフィスビル外で男性の人がサックフォンを引いていた時のことです。高層ビルに鳴り響き素敵な音色でした。あー、ニューヨークぽいなあって感動したのを覚えています。やっぱりニューヨークはかっこいいことが似合う街だな。

Saturday night, a jazz photographer took me to a non-profit jazz bar, The Stone that was founded by John Zone and Sugimoto. They have different bands every night. John Zone plays every month. I sat on the chair and chatted with my friend. Suddenly the band came and started to play. They were like rockﾕn roll stars! I never seen rockﾕn roll Jazz bands. The bass was amazing. Sounds of the bass dominated as well as intertwine with sounds of drum, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet. I never really paid attention to bass play so much. When one of musicians picked up saxophone, it brought me an old memory when I came to New York first time. I saw one guy was playing saxophone on the street between buildings. The sounds travel through the high-rises. It was so cool to me at the time. New York is still cool place to me.

ひとしくんの展

５月２日から５日までアンソロージーフィルムアーカイブで知人がスライドショーをします。スライドショーといっても作品のスライドショーではなくて、スライドショーそのものが作品なんです。とても好きな作家です。是非、見にいってください。

静かな会場の中に刻まれる単調なスライド投影の音、断続する写真。スライドとスライドの間の緊張した不器用な時がすき。
　
My friend is having a slide show at the Anthology Archives. It is not a slide show of the work; the slide show itself is his work. He takes this slide show as a medium to express himself. He is one of my favorite artists. Please go and see the show. The show will start May 2nd through 5th.

The monotonous sounds of projecting the slides reflect in the theater. I love the tensed moment between the slides.

sakura

昨日からニューヨークも暖かくなり、春です。先日までコートに帽子ははなせない状態なほど寒かったの今日は半袖で歩いている人もみかけました。天気もとても良いのでセントラルパークにお花見にいってきました。ニューヨークの春はいっぺんにくるので、桜と木蓮とレンギョウの花が一緒にさいていました。その他にも水仙やすみれなどかさいていて、花ざんまいです。桜は満開で本当にきれいでした。セントラルパークの桜の木も結構古いので円山公園の桜にまけないくらい立派でした。べらべら、ぶらぶらと２時間もあるいてしまいました。春だなあ。

Spring came finally! I was too cold not to wear a jacket or hat until a few days ago. However, today, you could see people with only t-shirts! Since the weather is lovely, I went to the central park today, to see flowers. There were so many different kinds of flowers, including Cherry Blossoms, Magnolias and Forsythias. In New York, all flowers blossom at the same time. The Cherry trees in Central Park are pretty old, the blossoms were comparable to the famous Cherry Tree in the Maruyama Park, Kyoto! Walked around for 2 hours..

Nippon Jumpers

One of artists’ friends in New York is directing a show, called “ Japanese Jumpers.” I saw one of this series of this show. There were a happening; the air condition broke during the performance, however they continued. I still remembered the atmosphere and the feeling quiet obviously. The show will be held on 23rd and 27th. If you are interested in, please check it out!

知り合いの演出家の舞台が２３日と２７日に行われます。私もこの舞台をニューヨークでみさせていただきました。よかったです。

何かのトラブルでニューヨークのシアターのエアコンがとまってしまい、暑さの中、舞台をみたのを覚えています。会場のしめった空気が雰囲気をだし、演出者の熱が伝わるような舞台をみました。

JFK

After staying Asia for two month, my attitude mellowed down. When I got back JFK, I suddenly realized that. At the custom, I noticed many workers were chewing gums, and talking to each other. Every one was pushing each other to get in the best cue. Once I got out from the custom, the taxi drivers were coming toward me and asking where I would go. On the way home, looking at Manhattan, I felt that I was back in New York and still enjoying rest of the feeling of Asia mode.
２ヶ月間の日本、香港の滞在の後、ニューヨークに戻ってきた。日本での丁重な扱いの後JFKの雰囲気は異国のものでした。税関の人はガムを噛みながら隣のブースの人と話しているし、人々は忙しく、早いラインに並ぼうと、せわしない。空港の到着ゲートでは沢山の人が待っているのと同時にタクシーの人たちがどこへいくのかとうるさく付きまとってくる。あー、ニューヨークについたなっと思った。タクシーにのって帰る道中に見えるマンハッタンの夜景はいつみても最高。これからはニューヨークモードに直さなきゃいけないなあと思いながら、日本モードの余韻を楽しみました。

画廊

今回日本に帰って驚いたことは、画廊の数が凄く増えた事です。特に東京はよく知らないのもあってか、美術館やギャラリーの数にびっくりしました。全部は回れなかったのですが、作品も面白いものが多く、よかったです。一つ行きたくていけなかた個展があるのでここで紹介しておきます。

今回は個展のため日本に帰っていました。オープニングの夜には沢山の方々が集まってくれました。私は東京に住んだ事がないので、人が集まるかと、少し心配していたのですが、東京に住む友達が沢山お友達を連れてきてくれました。それに同時期にニューヨークの友達が何人も東京にきていたので、オープニングに顔を出してくれました。特に東京にお住まいの人は以前ニューヨークで出会った方が多く、お互いもお知り合い同士の方が多かったので、皆久しぶりに出会える場所になったこと、良かったともいます。そして、大阪からわざわざ、きてくれた友達。とても嬉しいかったです。トークにも京都や大阪の知人が、そして、沖縄からも私の為にきてくれました。申し訳ないのと同時にも、とても嬉しくおもいました。どうもありがとう！

I was for a month in Japan for my show. I was worried how many people would come to the opening, since I never lived in Tokyo and didn't know much people in Tokyo. However, many friends from New York were happened to be in Tokyo, and the friends lived in Tokyo brough many people too. Lots of people used to live in New York, and knew each other. The openeing turned into a re-union. I was so happy that many people enjoyed the show. Some friends from Osaka, Kyoto and Okinawa came to my talk.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year! Well, it is already 13th. Sorry. I have been so sick since after our big party on 4th. Several friends couldn't come to the party. Now I understand how hard it is. Ugh. I learned lots of things about a Cold. It is interesting. How my body fights back to it. I observed my sick body this time. It is kind of similar to see when I was healing from severe burns. I felt like I am terminator or something. My body healed by it self. Amazing.
