Mr. D

(Japanese)フィスカスの家には暖炉があります。(適当な写真が今のところないので一枚写っているのがあったのでそれをアップロードしました。ちょっと解りにくいのですが右横にある黒い柱みたいなので。殆どみえないけど。もう一つの写真は朝、目にする霜の写真です。氷細工のようです。）普通に想像する暖炉の形とちょっとちがっています。フィンランド語には普通につかわれている暖炉とは違った名前があるそうです。とてもかわいらしいデザインですが使い方がわからないといったら、今日、アメリカの友人が火のつき方の方法を送ってくれました。公開しますね。笑　（あくまでもこれは暖炉の使い方でないので気をつけて。暖炉はもっとややこしいみたいです。）

(English)Every house has a fire place in Fiskars. The design of the fireplaces are so unique. (I dont' have a good photo at this moment, I uploaded one here.. you see the black pillar on the edge of the photo.. but not clear. Another photo is the photo of the frost, when I wake up this morning! It looks like Ice workmanship) They told me that the fireplaces have different names from the regular fireplaces. When I said that I didn't know how to use, my friend form the states sent me the procedure to create fire. I thought it was funny. Than you Mr.D!　
(please notice, this not the usages of the fire place. the fire place is more complecated.)

PROCESS FOR CREATING FIRE
Materials:
Newspaper
Wood
Match

Pre-fire Activity:
Buy newspaper
Chop down tree
Buy match

Procedure:
1. Crumple 6 sheets of newspaper
2. Put in fireplace
3. Place 20 small pencil size twigs over newspaper
4. Strike match and place against bottom of newspaper
5. When twigs flame, add finger size twigs
6. When finger size twigs flame, add 1 branches
7. When 1 branches flame, add 2 branches
8. When 2 branches flame, add 4 branches
9. Continue adding 4 branches until you reach desired comfort level.
10. Push ashes and embers into a neat pile before going to bed.
11. Rake ashes apart in morning and place 1 size branches on hot coals
12. Repeat steps 6 through 9.

雪の中に忘れられた足跡 Left Behind Footsteps

(Japanese) フィスカスにきてから下を見てあるくことがおおくなった。朝丘を歩く事にしている。あるいているといろんなことを発見する。鹿や大鹿の足跡、ウサギのかろやかなジャンプの後、良く解らない足跡。みてるだけでたのしい。ここへ来てから一度狐をみただけでなにもみたことがない。なのだけどきっと夜になるとなんやらと動物たちが起きてきて、夜な夜な歩き回り、私たちが起きてくる頃に姿を消し去る。足跡だけを消し忘れて、寝床に帰っていったのかと思うとなんだか楽しくなる。

(English) Since I came to Fiskars, I started looking down while I am walking on the paths. They are so many interesting things lying on the grounds. Footsteps of Deer, Moose, Rabbit, and strange creatures. It is entertaining. I only saw a fox, since I got here. However, animals woke up the middle of the nights, and wondering around and leave when we are about waking up. They forget the footsteps in the snow, and go back to home. Just imaging it, it is hilarious!

Ekenas/Tammisarri

(Japanese)今日はイカネスとういう街にARTIBUSという他のレジデンスのアーティストのオープングにいってきました。イカネスの街には小さな港があります。港の水はしっかり凍っていました。（以前は驚いていたのだけどもう慣れておどろきません。）本当に寒いのだなっと実感しながら　冬の季節ならではの静けさとその風景がかもしだす静寂さに北欧の美に感動。冬にきてよかったとおもいました。

そのアーティストは編み物を媒体として（かぎ針編みが主）作品制作していました。その他古着屋などでみつけた編み物を再利用してのインスタレーションもありました。かぎ針編みで編んだトイレと水道の作品は、とてもエレガントでそして同時にすこし滑稽な作品で、そのバランスがとても気に入りました。

(English)We drove down to Ekenas to attend an opening by one of the artist residents of ARTIBUS. Ekenas had a little port with small ships, of course the water was frozen, I wonﾕt be surprised anymore. I was realizing that it was really cold, and fascinated by the special winter landscape of Finland, that creates the atmosphere of serenity and calmness. I thought I was lucky to come in winter.

The artist creates works by knitting or crocheting. She also constructs from the second-hand knitted pieces. I love her crocheted toilet and sink. She made toilet and sink using white crochets. It looks elegant, but the same time it was amusing. The contradictions made the work so interesting to me.

Fiskars Artists

Fiskarsにきてから何人ものアーティストにお会いする事ができました。ニューヨークよりもその数は多いのではないかと思うくらいです。昔ながらのビレッジの伝統が引き継がれ、家具、陶器、鍛冶などを扱う芸術家の方々が沢山在住しています。もちろん画家や写真かジュエリーデザイン、ファブリックデザインなどをされるアーティストの方もいらしゃいます。日本のアーティストの方もいらっしゃいます。ここであった何人かのアーティストを紹介しようとおもいます。


Since I came to Fiskars, I met so many artists. I started to doubt that the population of the artists in this village was bigger than New York City. Taking after the traditional arts, there are many ironsmiths, furniture designers; ceramists live here, including painters, photographers and jewelry designers. I would like to introduce here some of the great artists who I met here.


Jukka Makelaユッカと発音します。彼はFiskarsで制作活動をされる画家です。彼のアトリエに遊びにいかせて頂きました。彼の隣に写っている写真の女性は私と同じFriskarsのアーティストレジデンスに来ているWin-lynです。写真の前では照れ屋さんのようで１人よりも女性を横に撮影したときのほうが良い顔をしていたのでこの写真をのせました。ニコニコと笑顔の絶えないやさしいユッカさん、ソーダやスナックまでわざわざ私たちのために用意してくださいました。彼のアトリエは2000か3000sq feetぐらいの広々としたアトリエでした。大きなキャンバスに大胆な絵を描かれるユッカさん、時に息抜きにビービーガンで的を狙いうちするそうです。その的もとってもアーティスティックでキュートでした。

Jukka Makela, pronounced Yukka. He is a painter based in Fiskars. We are able to visit his studio. The lady next to him is Win-lin who is another artists resident in Fiskars. Jukka was shy for being photographed, this picture with Win-lin, he was more relaxed, so I decided to use this photo. He welcomed us with some drink and food with his charming smile. I can’t tell, but his studio was closed to 2-3000 square feet, it was very spacious. He paints big powerful paintings. When he needs to take break form it, he concentrates one moment to shoot objects on the wall with a be-be gun. The target was also so cute and artistic!

Fiskars

先週、Helsinki から西にあるFiskarsの街にやってきました。ついた日は春だったのに、先日から雪です。小枝ちょこのホワイトバージョンがでたときのような感激。

I came to Fiskars last week, an hour west of Helsinki, Finland. When I arrived it was a spring day, however the snow started from a few days ago, Fiskars was covered with white snow.
